Presentation rough draft
Objective: At the end of this presentation, I want my classmates to see math in a whole different way, and hopefully take a liking to it. They will learn how math is used on an advanced level in real life, how they use it everyday without even knowing it, how to teach it, and how to best learn it themselves!
Procedure:
1.) Introduce myself and ask for a show of hands from people who dislike math. I will ask two or three of them why they don't like it.
1 minute time
2.) Explain how people use math in everyday situations, like when they drive, play music, or even look for something.
30 seconds
3.) Explain Bifurcation theory (a short summary of what it is and what it's used for).
1 minute
4.) Show why it's harder for some people to learn math, and explain how to best teach math.
1 minute
5.) Advise how to best learn math.
30 seconds.
6.) Conclude by asking if anyone has questions.
Literal: What I learned about teaching and application of math in general, and the differences some people have over others.
Interpretive: State that some have trouble learning math and everyone learns differently, the most important thing to know about the topic is that everyone will use it everyday of their lives.
Applied: The end goal of my project is to learn how to teach math and how to apply it to advanced situations. Teaching is part of application, but is such a big part that it needs consideration separate from common use.
My preferred visual will be a white board that allows me to draw.
My only concern is that it seems like it might take longer than you think.
